The Crew Former NBA Player Lorenzen Wright Found Dead In Memphis
July 29th, 2010
The Crew Bad news… We told you this weekend that former NBA player Lorenzen Wright had gone missing and his family feared the worst. News just broke that his body has been discovered in the woods of Memphis Tennessee
Former NBA player Lorenzen Wright has reportedly been found dead in a wooded area in Southeast Memphis.
Memphis police are still investigating, but a report on myEyewitnessNews.com indicates that the body found “had been shot and it may be self inflicted.” We haven’t yet seen confirmation from authorities, but it appears that Wright’s disappearance may have ended in the worst way imaginable. We’ll continue to monitor this story for further updates.
Wright had been missing since July 17th after leaving his ex-wife’s home. His family filed a missing person’s report on July 23rd and said that they feared he’d been the victim of foul play — suspicions the police initially downplayed. Earlier on Wednesday, police had announced that they had found a body in southeastern Memphis as they investigated Wright’s location based on his last known phone call, a 911 hangup made early in the morning of July 18th.
Wright had been having financial problems, but reportedly was carrying a good deal of cash when he disappeared, which raises the possibility of robbery as a motive for murder.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. R.I.P.

The Crew Mom Does What With Her Newborn??!!
July 29th, 2010
The Crew WTH is going on in the world today?! This woman just lost her mom of the year nomination with her actions!
A 21-year-old Reisterstown woman threw her newborn baby out of a window last week, a Baltimore County police spokesman said.
Rebecca Himes of the 100 block of Virginia Ave. gave birth to a baby in the bathroom of her home Thursday, placed the baby into a plastic bag and threw the bag out the window into some bushes, said Lt. Robert McCullough.
A family member heard a noise and found the baby outside, McCullough said. The girl’s mother and the other family member then called the police, he said. The officers noted that the distance between the window from which the baby is thought to have been thrown and the hedge that broke her fall was between 10 and 12 feet. “The screen to the bathroom window was also pushed out of the window and was lying against the rear of the house,” the report says. It adds that there was blood all over the bathroom, including in the shower.
The doctor who treated the mother and child said the young woman did not have pre-natal care, which “put not only the baby’s life at risk but her own life at risk.” During the unsupervised birth, which occurred in a non-sterile environment, any number of problems could have arisen, the doctor said, not least that Himes “could have bled to death.”
The mother was released and was not arrested and has not been charged for this incident as of yet. The case remains under investigation and the baby is fine and suffered no injuries has been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services.
Maryland has a Safe Haven law, which allows mothers to drop off babies to hospitals or police stations with no questions asked within 10 days of birth. It seems this mother took that law out of context and thought dropping a baby out of the window was the same thing! SMH!

U.S. District Judge Smacks Down Sections Of Arizona’s Immigration Law
July 29th, 2010
The Crew Arizona’s new immigration law has just been dealt a mighty blow today, with a federal judge nullifying some of the most controversial sections of the new law, which was set to go into effect tomorrow.
A federal judge blocked the most controversial sections of Arizona’s new immigration law from taking effect today, handing a major legal victory to opponents of the legislation.
The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many of the provisions that angered opponents — including sections that required officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws. The judge also put on hold a part of the law that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers to solicit employment in public places.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton put those sections on hold until the courts resolve the issues.
“Preserving the status quo through a preliminary injunction is less harmful than allowing state laws that are likely pre-empted by federal law to be enforced,” she said.“There is a substantial likelihood that officers will wrongfully arrest legal resident aliens,” she wrote. “By enforcing this statute, Arizona would impose a ‘distinct, unusual and extraordinary’ burden on legal resident aliens that only the federal government has the authority to impose.”
The judge’s decision, which came as demonstrators on both sides of the law gathered here, and after three hearings in the last two weeks in which the judge peppered lawyers on both sides with skeptical questions, seemed unlikely to quell the debate.
“I am disappointed by Judge Susan Bolton’s ruling,” Gov. Jan Brewer said in a statement. “This fight is far from over. In fact, it is just the beginning, and at the end of what is certain to be a long legal struggle, Arizona will prevail in its right to protect our citizens.
“I have consulted with my legal counsel about our next steps. We will take a close look at every single element Judge Bolton removed from the law, and we will soon file an expedited appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.”
Opponents say the law will lead to racial profiling and is trumped by federal immigration law.
Is this just the first step in the right direction? Or will the Department of Justice ultimately have to step in?
Does anyone agree with Arizona’s governor? What’s more important at the end of the day — citizenship or humanity?
Did U.S. District Judge Bolton do the right thing? After all, what about U.S. citizens who happen to be the “wrong” color? Seems like they’ll end up under attack too.
